Sewing Machines for Beginners

Blog Created by Bong Tuazonn

All sewing machines have only one thing in common, and that's to join materials by stitching or threading. In this market alone, there are different kinds of brands and models. These different types of machine vary in terms of its features, quality and prices. It is not rocket science to choose the perfect machine for your needs. Surely, you can be disoriented on where to begin. There are embroidery as well as heavy duty sewing machines. You need to know what you want for your specific needs. To start off, let us take apart some key elements to consider when shopping for the best machine.

Brand:

If you are a novice at this, choosing the best one is not that difficult at all. To veer you to the right direction, let me list down some known brands: Babylock, Bernina, Brother, Husqvarna Viking, Janome, Juki, Kenmore, Pfaff, Singer, and White.

Once you have something in mind, it is best that you consider some very important key elements, such as the origin of its assembly and where it was made. Different kinds of brands no longer utilize parts made from metal, instead low-cost oriented sewing manufacturers use poor quality plastic that results to inferior performance. As a personal preference, I strongly recommend brands that are western (US or UK ) made. Western made brands are known for high quality in terms of performance and durability. If so, choose an American manufacturer with "Made in America" on the box.

Personally, I go for a mid-range price point, I suggest that the Janome family brand of machines is a good brand to keep. Janome brands are very consistent, strong, and easy to use as compared to other sewing machines. Some brand names are pricier, for example Husqvarna Viking and Bernina. These brands cater to mostly industrial type machines.

Features:

Sewing machines are a lot like any ordinary automobile. Though they have one function in common (sewing), but they have their differences in attributes. If you intend to make sewing as a career rather than a hobby, then you might be interested in doing some due diligence of choosing the best machine for your needs.

All sewing machines comprise a unique set of mechanisms. Perhaps, the reason for this is just to be different with the rest of the machines. Some have the alternative for stretch stitches, some have a one-step buttonhole, others come with specialty feet, and some have special quilting features. It is not advisable to acquire a machine that has basic functions. You might out grow it immediately.

Beware of hypnotic sales pitches that might mention "cheap sewing machines", "Juki sewing machine is the best" or "sewing machine repair not necessary" to that effect. Instead, think about what your objectives are as far as your sewing machine business goes. Follow a business plan. Better yet, have somebody who knows to help you choose the best
